چکیده

This paper presents three principles for the design and construction of objectoriented operating systems. These principles are based on the design of Choices, an object-oriented operating system that is implemented on the Encore Multimax shared memory multiprocessor. Choices is written entirely in C++, an object-oriented language that supports inheritance through class hierarchies. C++ is compiled, rather than interpreted, so Choices executes directly on the hardware without any special run-time support. The rst principle is to model the hardware/system software interface by a framework of interacting components. The state of the model should re ect the state of the hardware and manipulation of the model should modify the state of the hardware. The second principle is to provide a uniform mechanism for application-to-system and for application-to-application communications. In an object-oriented operating system architecture this should be the invocation of a method on an instance of a system or application object. The third principle is to organize an object-oriented operating system as a member of a family of operating systems. This family should be represented as a class hierarchy that forms a taxonomy for operating system algorithms and data structures. We discuss these principles using examples taken from the Choices family of operating systems.

Modelsaz: An Object-Oriented Computer-Aided Modeling Environment

Modeling and simulation of processing plants are widely used in industry. Construction of a mathematical model for a plant is a time-consuming and error-prone task. In light of extensive advancements in computer science (both hardware and software), computers are becoming a necessary instrument in industrial activities. Many software tools for modeling, simulation and optimization of proces...

On Attributes of Objects in Object-Oriented Software Analysis

One of the modern paradigms to develop a system is object oriented analysis and design. In this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles. There is a sequence of activities to develop an analysis model. In the first step, we work in developing an initial use case model. Then in the second step, they identify a number of concepts and build a glossary of partic...

DIRECT : A Basis for Distributed Real - time Control Applications

The DIRECT activity (DIstributed Real-time ConTrol) aims at simplifying the construction of distributed real-time control applications by using object-oriented principles and tools. A control application is designed as a collection of real-time objects distributed over the nodes of a system. The objects are invoking each others operations. Interface definitions of object types are formally desc...

Objects Identification in Object-Oriented Software Development - A Taxonomy and Survey on Techniques

This paper makes a literature review over techniques to identify objects and then presents six taxonomies for them. The f...

Streamlined PURE Systems?

Embedded and especially deeply embedded systems tend to offer extremely limited resources. Until now, this means a massive barrier for applying approved object-oriented design principles and abstractions to related operating systems. In this paper, the reasons are discussed why object orientation left on its own will burst the given limits. It is also suggested in brief how to improve the creat...
